Harris Hospiscare Bluebell WalkThe annual Bluebell Walk took place on Sunday 8 May at Cudham Recreation Ground.

Despite a heavy early downpour, the sun began to shine just as the first of the 800 plus walkers arrived for registration at 9am, many keen to enjoy the breakfast bacon butties on offer and get a head start on one of the five beautiful cross-country walks that wind through the local area.

After record breaking temperatures this April, it was a surprise to many that a good quantity of Bluebells had managed to survive and pockets of the flowers still carpeted many of the surrounding woods.

There was plenty going on back at the recreation ground, with live music, snake handling, a Covent Garden clown and a hog roast BBQ, as well as gorgeous home-made cakes and buns.

The Mayor of Bromley, Cllr. George Taylor, joined walkers to trek the 9 mile route around Halstead and once finished had a close up encounter with a 9ft Burmese Python.

It was an incredible day. We had a huge number of people come along today and take part in our walk. It never fails to amaze us here at the hospice how generous and supportive the local community are and we are all truly grateful for all their hard work, not just today but in raising vital sponsorship money for us.

The target for the Bluebell Walk is £40,000, which would be a record amount for the walk. With monies still to be counted and collected, a final total for the event won’t be known for a few weeks yet.
