By donating as you earn, you can help us to be there whenever and wherever a patient needs us.

Direct from your salary

Donating direct from your salary – or Payroll Giving as it is known – means that you will pay less tax as the donation is deducted before the calculation of income tax.

If you would like to donate in this way speak to your payroll department to see if they have the system set up for you to take part. Then simply decide how much you would like to donate and sign an authority form.

If the system is not set up yet please contact Christine Davies in the fundraising team on 01689 825755 so that we can encourage your employer to join in.

Direct from your tax return

If you are a higher rate tax payer you can reclaim the remaining portion of the tax you paid via your tax return or choose to donate some or all of this to Harris HospisCare too using form SA100 Charity ‘Giving your tax repayment to charity’ and quoting our charity code RAD05EG.

Giving shares

Donors can claim Income Tax relief equal to the market value of the shares on the day the gift is made. This means that a higher rate taxpayer making gift of £1,000 worth of shares to a registered charity, will receive income tax relief of 40 per cent of the full value, i.e. £400. In addition to income tax relief there is also relief from capital gains tax. 

In order to make these savings all you need to do is:

• give the shares to a registered charity
• claim the tax relief on your tax return
• have paid the amount of tax deducted by the end of the tax year in which the gift is given, (in other words the gift cannot give rise to a tax credit).

Gifts of shares can be transferred to Harris HospisCare either by completing a Crest Transfer form for each share holding and returning it to us together with the appropriate share certificate(s) or electronically if your shares are held by brokers under the Crest system. Find out more here
